Why LED could replace incandescent and CFL

date:2012-05-09

LED light is currently widely used in many lighting fields, like restaurants, office buildings, hospitals, factories and so on. We are now to find out what advantages the LED has.

To be briefly, the LED has the following features:

1.Energy Efficiency, save much energy compared with other light source.

2.Long Life, life time up to 100,000 hours.

3.Available in a range of colors, like red, blue, green and the widely used white color.

4.No UV Emissions/Little Infrared.

5.Durable, don't need to change bulbs frequently.

6.Small Size/Design Flexibility.

The operational life expectancy of current white LED lamps is 100,000 hours. This is 11 years of continuous operation. The long operational life of a led lamp is a vast contrast to the average life time of the incandescent bulb, which is approximately 5000 hours. If the lighting device needs to be embedded into a very inaccessible location, using LEDs would eliminate the need for routine bulb replacement. Various estimates of potential energy savings by using LEDs range from 82% to 93%. LEDs produce no UV radiation and little heat, making them ideal for illuminating objects, such as works of art, that are sensitive to UV light. And the last advantage of LED light is environmental benefits: The significant lower power requirements of LEDs equate to reduced air pollution from carbon emissions.

LED lighting technology has been researched and developed for the past two decades and we are beginning to see practical applications from this work. And we will benefit more from it in the future!
